We are a group of parent and student volunteers with a mission to promote youth amateur ice hockey in the southern Orange County, CA geographical area. We strongly believe that team sports, and ice hockey specifically, allow our youth to learn valuable, life-long lessons about hard work, sportsmanship, teamwork, and community service.
Starting with the bonds created in the locker room to the relationships formed on ice, hockey creates life-long friendships. This camaraderie shared on and off the ice encourages teamwork and the natural development of leadership skills.
Set Up for Success
From learning to balance school, responsibilities at home, time at the rink and playing with friends, hockey encourages kids to learn time management skills that will later serve them in all facets of life. Hockey’s unique source of physical fitness promotes healthy living.
There’s nothing like the elated feeling your children get after winning a game they’ve practiced for day and night. But that good feeling can quickly dissipate when faced with bad sportsmanship. Youth sports are a great opportunity for kids to build self-esteem and learn the essentials of playing a game. But it’s also an opportunity for parents and coaches to teach the importance of good sportsmanship.
For student-athletes, participation in high school sports is a privilege which comes with great responsibilities. Among these responsibilities is showing respect for opportunities granted and providing service so that others can experience the same opportunities. Giving back to the community is what makes student-athletes heroes in the eyes of those who look up to them. We encourage our players to take advantage of the incredibly strong power of influence that each of their coaches and parent volunteers offer to help build stronger communities by giving back and proving that helping hands make a huge difference.
Hockey is Fun
The thrill of carrying the puck up the ice on a breakaway, the exhilaration of scoring your first goal or making that amazing save is possible due to the encouraging environment hockey provides to try new things and grow as a hockey player and person. The Newport Mesa Ice Kings play in the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League (ADHSL) from August through February each year, as well as participate in a number of local tournaments over holiday periods. Additionally, we field a team in the Anaheim Ducks Spring Select League (Spring Select) each year. Our geographical area includes Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, and Mission Viejo.
